July 25, 2025The Clinic Group’s Family Fun Day Celebrates Health, Play
Celebrating family wellness, community engagement, and pediatric care, leading Eswatini healthcare institution, The Clinic Group hosted its much-anticipated Family Fun Day on Saturday, 28 June 2025, at the Manzini Clinic.
The Clinic Group’s Family Fun Day celebrated health, play, and community engagement, reflecting its vision of being Africa’s integrated business partner in healthcare. As a first-world healthcare provider operating in Eswatini, the Group continues to innovate ways to make health services more approachable, community-driven, and patient-centric. The core values of Agility,
Accountability, Commitment, Teamwork, and Embrace Change guide The Clinic Group in its mission to normalise health conversations and make services more visible and accessible.
This full-day event served as a joyful community gathering and a strategic health outreach initiative, affirming The Clinic Group’s commitment to advancing holistic, family-centred healthcare in Eswatini. Held under the uplifting theme “Smiles, Games, and Good Health,” the event welcomed hundreds of families across the region, offering a unique blend of entertainment and health education.
The day was marked by excitement, learning, and meaningful engagement, particularly for children and their caregivers, who participated in a wide range of activities curated to foster development and well-being. While the festive atmosphere featured face painting, balloon-popping contests, a jumping castle, interactive games, quizzes, music, dancing, and family-friendly give-aways, the central focus remained on promoting children’s health and development.
The Clinic Group assembled a team of healthcare professionals, including paediatricians, psychologists, speech therapists, dieticians, and general practitioners, who answered questions from attendees throughout the day.
Gcinekile Nxumalo, Managing Director of The Clinic Group, emphasised the importance of creating environments where families feel supported not only in times of illness but also in everyday health-related decision-making. “We wanted families to not only have fun but also leave with valuable health insights,” Nxumalo stated. “This initiative was designed to show families the
importance of play in a child’s development and to connect them with the professional support that is readily available to them.” One of the primary objectives of the Family Fun Day was to highlight the essential role that play occupies in a child’s emotional, cognitive, and physical development. According to paediatrician Dr Charity Newton, who formed part of the expert team on-site, play is far more than a recreational activity, it is an indispensable element of early learning and growth.

The day was marked by excitement, learning, and meaningful engagement, particularly for children and their caregivers.

One of the primary objectives of the Family Fun Day was to highlight the essential role that play occupies in a child’s emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Broader purpose
“Play is essential for early learning and is fundamental in nurturing children’s brains,” Dr Newton explained. “It enhances cognitive development, emotional intelligence, problem-solving capabilities, communication skills, and even social empathy. When children play, they are not merely passing time, they are acquiring the foundational skills they need for life.”
Dr Newton stressed that such events also serve a broader purpose by encouraging families to incorporate structured and unstructured play into their daily routines. She added that when parents engage in play with their children, it strengthens emotional bonds, builds trust, and creates positive memories that are essential for a child’s mental and emotional well-being.
“Engaging in fun activities as a family allows for deeper connections and shared experiences that strengthen relationships,” she added. “These shared moments of joy create a secure environment where children feel valued, understood, and emotionally supported.”
The Family Fun Day also served as a vital outreach effort, aimed at bridging the gap between families and healthcare services in Eswatini. By removing the traditional barriers that can sometimes discourage families from seeking medical support, such as cost, fear, or lack of awareness, the event provided a welcoming and accessible entry point into the healthcare system.
“This concept provided a unique opportunity to engage children in activities that are both enjoyable and educational,” Dr Newton observed. “It was not just about entertainment, but a meaningful investment in the future of our children’s health.” Family Fun Day forms part of The Clinic Group’s larger vision to promote a culture of proactive
Healthcare and strengthen community health literacy. As a first-world healthcare provider operating in Eswatini, the Group continues to innovate ways to make health services more ap-
proachable, community-driven, and patient-centric.
“We want to normalise health conversations and make services more visible and accessible,” said Nxumalo. “Our clinics are not just places to visit when someone is sick; they are community pillars designed to empower individuals and families to live healthier, more informed lives.”
The Manzini Clinic’s grounds echoed with the joyful sounds of satisfied families and playful
children. While balloons floated into the sky and families departed with gift bags and keepsakes, the true takeaway from Family Fun Day was something far more enduring: stronger family ties, empowered parents, and a reinforced understanding of the importance of health and wellness from the earliest stages of life.
Parents Applaud The Clinic Group’s Child-focused Family Fun Day
Parents in attendance praised the event for its focus on making healthcare approachable and child-friendly. Many expressed how the day went beyond their expectations, offering both entertainment for their little ones and tangible tools to support their families’ well-being.
Phindle Maseko, a mother of two from Ngwane Park, was quick to share her gratitude. “As a parent, it’s not always easy to know where to turn for the right support, especially with so many opinions out there,” she said. “But today, I spoke to a child psychologist who helped me understand my youngest son’s behaviour better. It gave me clarity and hope. And my children? They’ve been smiling the whole day.”
One of the most appreciated aspects of the day was how health information was shared, free of jargon, pressure, or judgment. Parents were able to speak with professionals in a relaxed, friendly environment, asking questions they might not have raised in a formal clinic setting.
Jabulani Shongwe, from Malkerns, highlighted how valuable it was to access services without intimidation.
“Sometimes you walk into a clinic and feel like you’re just a number,” he said. “But today was different. I sat down with a speech therapist who listened to my concerns about my daughter’s delayed speech and explained things in a way I could understand. That one conversation gave me direction.”
At the heart of the event was a simple but powerful message: play is not just fun — it is essential. Every activity was crafted to promote developmental growth playfully and engagingly. From building blocks to sensory bins, the focus was on letting children explore, create, and learn at their own pace.
Lindhive Vilakati, a first-time mother from Matsapha, spoke emotionally about how the event opened her eyes to the importance of play in her daughter’s development. “I always thought that toys were just for keeping kids busy,” she admitted. “But today, I learned that play is how children understand the world. Watching my daughter explore the sensory play area and interact with other kids, I realised I’ve been underestimating her. This has changed how I want to parent.”
